Double vision or diplopia is a common occurrence with a drunken stupor. But you can get the issue of vision convergence with other reasons too. Too much strain on the eyes because of work can be one reason. You can get double vision from astigmatism, cataracts or severe health issues like tumour, botulism and others.
Double vision is caused because the eyes are not moving in unison. The muscles that control the eyes are weakened and do not function properly, giving you double vision. Double vision caused because of eye defects like astigmatism can be corrected by wearing toric lenses or glasses. Shifting Thumb Exercise
If you are familiar with eye exercises like shifting focus, this exercise will be easy for you. This will help you in focusing comfortably on any object.
- Straighten out your arm with a raised thumb and focus on the tip of it
- Focus on it and slowly move it towards your nose
- Try to keep the thumb as one image as you shift it towards your nose
- Whenever the image splits into two, try to focus and see them back into one image
- Repeat this exercise a few more times
Refocusing Exercise
This exercise is similar to the previous one. Try this exercise to see defined images when focusing on different things.
- Stand straight and look at any distant object (for instance, a clock on the wall)
- Straighten your hand with raised thumb and bring it to your line of vision
- Shift your focus to the thumb tip and try to see it as a single image
- Change your focus back to the distant object
- Take a moment break by closing your eyes and repeat these steps a few more time
Exercise with a Dot Card
You can get a dot card from your optician. This card is a card with some dots along a straight line.
- Hold this card over your nose (Refer to the image above to hold it correctly. One end of the card should touch your nose.)
- Focus on the dot at the farthest end and see it as a single image
- Now shift your focus to the second dot while keeping the single image
- Concentrate for 10 seconds and move to another dot
- Continue concentrating on the dots, one after another
- If you see a double vision in between, move back to the previous dot, and continue from that dot
- Take a rest in between by closing your eyes for few seconds and repeat the steps above
Exercise with a Stereogram
A stereogram is a picture card with two incomplete images. When you converge them, they form a complete image. You can get a stereogram card from your optician, or you can print out one online.
- Hold the card at arm’s length with one hand and a pen with the other hand
- Bring the pen in between the card and your line of vision
- Focus on the tip of the pen and try to see it as a single image
- Move the pen towards your nose while having the stereogram in the backdrop
- As the pen is halfway close to your eyes, you should be able to see the stereogram in two split images
- Repeat this exercise a few more times
These exercises are simple and do not require any expensive equipment. You can try them out in your home or just anywhere. Doing these exercises can help in reducing the issue of double vision.
While exercise can surely help alleviate your eye condition, you should consult your optician too. Get a free eye test to check your eye condition.
