Cleaning For Mental Clarity

Cleaning for mental clarity will keep you and your house in tip-top shape. If you’re in a cleaning rut with no way out, this is for you! Declutter your home and declutter your mind. There is nothing like coming home after a long day at work to a clean house.

Imagine A Cleaner Future

Your wooden floors are glistening with Pinesol, the shades are dusted, and that 10-year-old carpet with multiple mysterious stains are finally given a good old vacuuming. There’s something about a clean house that melts all of our worries away. Suddenly, everything’s good again. It’s as renewing as the turn of a new year (we welcome you with hopeful arms, 2021)!

You have a few options.  You can hire a commercial cleaner and reap the rewards of a clean home and happier life. Or you can partake in the process and watch your worries melt away.

Not only do we benefit our lives by clearing up dust and germs, but we’re clearing the clutter in our minds! Every time we leave junk by the front door or a sink filled with dishes, we deposit a little “anxious seed” in our heads.

We’ve all felt it – a room so beyond repair that our only resort is to sit and watch TV as an attempt to ignore our responsibilities. Procrastination at its finest.

And it only gets worse when we abandon it. One day, it’s your P90X workout CDs splayed out on the floor in the living room, then maybe in a few hours, your son’s XBOX games are mixed in, your husband calls it a day and throws his socks in the mix, and before you know it, the mess has grown exponentially. Now you’ll have to set up a cleaning appointment (am I the only one who has to set dates and times for everyone in the house to clean?).

All you can do is reflect on the feeling of clean to bring you back to your senses.

It’s Not Your Fault

Now, don’t beat yourself up. It’s hard.

“And why is it so hard?” you ask yourself. If all it takes is getting off the couch and getting it done, why does the idea of cleaning feel like an exhausting task? Well, you’re in an impossible situation, that’s why.

Now, I don’t mean to create excuses for you – this is not a scapegoat.

But you’re stuck in a cycle of worry. Once the mess begins, we have an instinct to ignore it. This builds up mental clutter, which in turn forces us to ignore even more responsibility.

And we’re home a lot more. COVID-19 has kept us indoors for nearly a year now. Opportunities that we’re missing out on are constantly reminding us that yeah, home is where the heart is, but home is also the only option.

My P90X workout CDs are a constant reminder of the exercise I need to be doing. The pots that I left in the sink remind me that I haven’t cooked a proper meal in a while. Remember that little “anxious seed” I mentioned? Yeah, it’s actually reignited every time you look at the abandoned mess and realize you haven’t cleared it yet.

So you procrastinate. And the mess grows. And so does that seed.

It’s growing like an overcrowding vine as the days pass us by. If home is where we’ll spend our COVID-19 days, then we might as well make the best of it.

How To Get Started

“Just DO it!”  But that really is the name of the game. It’s also easier said than done.

What are your goals for cleaning? First, imagine the benefits:

  • Less    allergens
  • More physical space
  • Room for organization
  • Mental clarity
  • Increased productivity in other sectors of life

Next, don’t make excuses for yourself! Make time for cleaning. If it’s in the morning before you start the day, or after work, or before bed, you can find time. While it may feel as if it’s gone too far, and you’re all strung out from the mess, your greatest ally will just be getting it done.

When you’re done, you will not only feel cleaner and clearer, but you’ll be able to become more productive in the areas that you want to be! Your energy is no longer expended on wondering when you’ll tackle your cleaning task, but how to get things that matter done. Hooray, productivity!

Upkeep

The most useful tip I’ve ever received regarding cleaning, or any bad habit that I’ve tried to break is:

Catch Yourself.

Before things get out of control and you notice you’re stepping back into that habit, catch it. Telling yourself “no” and preventing a mess in your home will prevent the “mess” in your mind. You’ll never have to set up a cleaning appointment again!

The more you practice “catching” the better you’ll become at it! It’s a muscle. *flexes bicep*

Decluttered

If you’re anything like me, I go nuts when my home/apartment isn’t clean. And for some, it’s a mental struggle to get the deed done. Procrastination is an enemy meant to be defeated.

With a better understanding of the cycle of clutter in our lives and a few tips on diminishing it, I hope cleaning for mental clarity will help improve this upcoming year and generate your most productive self!  You can also visit a psychic for a spiritual reading to help remove mental clutter.  It’s up to you!
